Some vendors offer Apple Care. You can also try purchasing it at a discount on eBay or Amazon.
Regardless, your new device comes with 90 days Customer Service Support and a full 12 month manufacturers warranty which includes device repair or replacement depending on the service issue.
You can purchase the Apple Care extended protection plan any time during the initial 12 month out of the box warranty.

I see. I think 12 months manufacturer's warranty will suffice for him so no need for the Apple Care. He has found new 16gb iPads selling on eBay for under £365 which includes delivery so I think he will go with that.
