Pardon me if this is a dumb question, however, do you have to have an iPhone in order for Messages to work? I ask this because if you go into Settings->Messages, it asks for Caller ID.


Or am I incorrect and I can use Messages just with my iPad?

No you do not. I have an iPad and i use iMessage with other iPads frequently.

If you go into settings you can chose which email you want to receive iMessages at ( doesn't have to be your apple id). And other iPads iPhones or IPod's just enter that email instead of a phone #

I use message with my iPad 1 now that I have iOS 5. Works great!
