Activating iPad on one computer, syncing on another

    Hi,

I was just wondering whether anyone can help me; is it possible to activate an iPad using iTunes on one computer but later start syncing it on another which will be its long-term 'home' computer?

    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

Yes, no issues. I did this when I bought mine. I activated it on my laptop and when I got home from my business trip haven't used it since.

One thing to remember though...if you are SELLING the laptop or it's not yours, DEAUTHORIZE it from your iTunes account before you give it back.

I didn't do that, and there is nothing I can do until I fill up all the slots (you can authorize five computers). You can only deauthorize a computer that is connected to the iTunes OR deauthorize all five at once, once per year - BUT the option only comes up once you've filled the slots.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

Interesting what you said about having a maximum number of authorized computers. I was wondering about that a while ago when I had to rebuild my Windows PC for the third time on the same PC; would these count as three separate authorizations or just one? Wasn't sure whether iTunes uses something like the PC's MAC address to identify the device.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Yes, if you make major hardware changes they are considered three sep ones.

So does the IPad count as 1 of your authorized computers? Or does it count as a device like a Ipod touch or iphone ?
