I then place that file in a folder so iTunes can see it for the sync.
But, if I delete it from my pc.. will it also be deleted on the iPad?

I use a 120GB (ssd) HD in my laptop and i have 20GB left.
So, I just want to store the converted files on the iPad.

    Is that possible?
If iTunes only syncs then I would need a lot of extra space on my laptop!
Or can you like just place the movie on the iPad?
Read this please Apple - iTunes - Learn about the features of iTunes 9.
    Thank you for the link.

After reading this I still want to confirm the following:

"Any song, movie, etc.. that is on my iPad has to be also in my Laptop
due to the fact that iTunes syncs all the data between the devices"

    correct?

Syncing goes both ways. If you don't have it on your laptop, iTunes will ask you if you want it to go to your laptop. The same goes for apps that you bought/got directly from your iPad.

Is there a way to store the movie (files) on the laptop without having them on your laptop?

iPad can't display either of those resolutons, so what's the point of using the extra bandwidth required to achieve them?

Actually no to both, unless you're using a non-standard 720p resolution as your reference.

True 720p resolution is 1280x720. iPad can't achieve that. It can process the video at that resolution, but to display it on the native screen it will be downscaled. Downscaling = wasted bandwidth.
