I've eventually got my iPad 2!

However for £400 I'm thinking shall I insure it?

Have you insured yours and if so how much did it cost?

Surely it's not worth insuring at least until after the first year of ownership, as you've still got your initial 1st year cover? (in the UK at least)

But that wouldn't cover theft.

Yes but if I drop it or lose it then standard warranty doesn't cover it?

Doesn't look like most cover loss, but dropping/breakage ? Surely that's part of the main first year guarantee.

Dropping/breakage replacement is a totally unofficial Apple policy and seems to be dependent on the goodwill of the store concerned. Although we've had no reports of a free exchange not being offered on a 'once-only' basis, it's not a right in any sense of the word.

So in essence, all Apple cover you for in the first year is mechanical failure?

It's also worth considering the shop you bought it from's guarantee terms and conditions too.

Mechanical and electrical failure. You couldn't expect them to cover you for dropping it!! They do this out of 'the goodness of their heart' or because they know a satisfied customer will spread the word and they'll end up with more customers that way.
