I had heard that any USB keyboard works with the iPad (via the Camera Connection Kit).

When I plugged the keyboard in, there was a message saying that it was an unsupported USB device, but it does actually work.

Does anyone know why I get the message?

Could it be because it draws power for CapsLock indication etc?

EDIT: A bonus, I have cursor keys for text selection when the keyboard is plugged. Also, the soft keyboard stays hidden when the keyboard is plugged in, so in spite of the message, the iPad does seem to fully recognise it.

The only concern that I have is the the camera connection kit leaves the iPad a bit vulnerable to damage while plugged in.

Thanks, it all seems a bit a bit odd. The USB keyboard works but is not officially supported.

I actually have the ZaggMate case/keyboard on order. With that there will be no bulky camera connection kit and it provides physical support for the iPad.
