I have ipad1 with me and I want to know how we can save the PDF file which is opened in safari from an iPad.

Tap once into the PDF, so the menubar appears at the top. Then proceed by pressing Open In... and select a PDF-reader of your choice, the reader will then open and save a copy of your file.

If you don't have a PDF-reader yet, iBooks and Goodreader are good choices.

There are apps available which allow you to download any file from web when you supply the URL.

GoAruna is one such free app. Goodreader (paid) can do it too.
