    Move iPad1 apps/data to an iPad2?

If I buy an iPad2 can I transfer my apps and data from the iPad1? I'm thinking of giving the iPad1 to my wife, but I need my song sheets, music etc. from the iPad1.

    Thanks for any assistance.

One of our experienced Forum members, twerppoet, suggested this in response to a similar question.

"In iTunes, with your iPad connected, choose you iPad under devices.

Right click on the iPad and do a Backup.

Right click on the iPad and choose Transfer Purchases.

Explore iTunes on the computer and make sure all your media and apps are there.

That will do most of what you need. To be on the safe side, go through any of your apps that store or create documents and make sure you email, or otherwise save them to the computer. Be sure to include the Saved Pictures album in iPhotos.

When you get your new iPad sync it to same account and computer. Right click on the device and choose Restore from Backup. I'm not completely sure of the right sequence in the restore procedure, so you might want to grab the iPad User's Guide. But as long as you did the first part with the old iPad you should be able to fumble you're way to a complete recovery of all your stuff.

Before you send back your iPad, be sure to Restore it from the main device screen. This will remove all your personal data and set it to the same state you received it in."

You might not need to undertake this very last part.

    Tim,

Thank you for your response and information. Now that I know it can be done I just have to make the decision as to purchasing the iPad2.

When you first connect the ipad 2 to your pc that you have the ipad 1 synced to, itunes will give you a choice to tread the ipad 2 as a new device, or restore the data from the ipad 1 backup. Just note when you do this both the ipad 1 / 2 will be synced to a single apple id account. So when someone downloads a new app/song/video/etc (free or purchase) off the itunes store, you will be able to transfer that purchase to both ipads. Example you buy a $.99 app on ipad 1, you can head to the app store on ipad 2, search for that app, and the buy button will show "install" instead of the regular cost of the app. That way you can press install and not be charged twice.

The other option is buy apps on ipad 1 or 2, sync it to your computer, then connect your other ipad up, go to the app section on the ipad, and enable that new app(s). So with itunes its buy once, sync with all your devices.

May I offer you some personal advice

Don't go into an Apple store with your credit card...

When I do that a 'trance' comes over me and my credit card starts jumping up and down in my pocket and ... and... a few minutes later I come out laden with Apple goodies...
