Ok no pic as of yet because I'm am away from resource, but I have a question. Does anyone know what the icon is that is near the Bluetooth icon and is a sort of upward and to the right angled arrowhead? Hope that makes sense.

Just looked at the iPad manual and it appears under 'Maps'. In the 'Current Location' section, it says that you can touch this icon to find your current location. So I opened the 'Maps' app and, indeed, that icon appears next to the Bluetooth icon.

Ok thanks so I can duplicate that action but sometimes this icon is out and maps is not open, nor "frozen". Any idea how to get rid of it or see what else is triggering it

Looked at this further. That icon appears next to the Bluetooth icon when an app is requesting the iPad's location.

If you go to 'Settings', 'General', 'Location Services' there are a list of apps that are enabled to use the iPad's location. Apps that have requested the location within the last 24 hours have that icon next to them.

So you should be able to identify the 'usual suspects'. In my list I have TuneIn (the Internet radio player that uses the iPad's location to find 'local' Internet radio stations) and (of course) 'Maps', because I opened it to find out what that icon meant!! I also have two other apps that are allowed to access the iPad's location, but have not done so in the last 24 hours.

The ability of an app to access the iPad's location can be turned on and off on an app-by-app basis here.

Hooray for Tim! I was wondering what that diagonal (pointing NE) arrow meant. I was on a bus trip this past weekend and was using the iPad to figure out our route. I should have figured it was to indicate location services.

I still think that there was some confusion (almost certainly on my part) about the icon being referred to in the 'triangle icon' thread. I was referring to the icon in the title of this post - a black exclamation mark in a yellow triangle, rather than the location request icon. I have not seen the icon that I was referring to appear in any iPad documentation. For sure, the location request icon appears in the iPad manual, I agree.

That is what I love about this Forum! It drives my wife nuts when all I can talk about at the dinner table is the difference between the various iPad icons. I need to get a life......

It must be something to do with the Scottish air....
