About LinkBacksIf you hit the home button in quick succession, you will find all the programs tht are running in the background.
If you are paying for data, you may be surprised when your bill comes in. The programs you think you are not using are in fact using data in the background.
The Washington Post had a good article about this today.
The WP is a great appt. Highly recommended.

Go back to 3.2.2. Otherwise, just close them out.

They just start up again and stay on that way until you again turn them off again.
There has to be a better way than that.

If your data plan is through AT&T, your screwed. But if its through Verizon they do not charge extra if your on an unlimited data plan at 30 a month.

Sorry to say, but apple was retarded on this multi-task issue. A better option would be able to pick which programs to allow multi tasking and which ones not.
For this specific reason..

Actually, "all" the programs that are sitting in the switcher are not "all" running in the background and downloading data.
Very few apps actually have a multitasking profile which would support this... The only ones I can think of are some music streaming and navigation apps.
The vast majority of apps are sitting in a completely frozen state unable to do very much at all (until brought back to the foreground)
So much misinformation circulates about multitasking on iDevices and folk tend to make incorrect assumptions because of their experiences and expectations with multitasking operating systems on the desktop.... Shame really

Double click the home button and you will see the bottom bar appear with applications which are either running active or running frozen-state.
You can scroll this horizontal bar on the bottom to left/right to view all these apps.
Finally, you can then 'close' the app(s) by simply holding down a finger on the specific app (looking the same as if you are deleting an app). Then they will wobble (again looking the same as if you are deleting them). Then you can choose from this list of apps which to 'close'. When you are done, then once again a press on the home button.
Voila, it's like a task manager to close offending apps.
For example a GPS app will consume battery at an accelerated rate. Close these apps when not in use.
