    What data is stored for retrieval when syncing

    When syncing, What data is stored for future retrieval in case iPad goes down or damaged etc

    Application and system settings are backed up, along with any other content which apps have downloaded or created. E.g issues of a magazine for a magazine reader app, or progress for a game.
    All the other media, e.g music, video, etc is already in iTunes.
    Therefore, by restoring and resyncing you should get back to roughly where you started.

    You can set contacts to sync in iTunes or through email. Personally I sync my contacts OTA with GMail.

    You'll lose any notes you've taken and articles you've saved in reader apps.
