Hi can someone explain the retina display to me. What is so great about it? What is the difference between the retina display and the previous display's?

The RD always much sharper images on the newer iPads than previous releases. This is due to higher resolutions and higher pixel density.
Because of this the human eye won't noticed pixelations making things much better to look at especially if you do some reading on the iPad.
Current Apple Devices:
iPad 3-Black-16G-WiFi
iPod Touch 4th Gen-Black-8G-WiFi
Previous display: more grainy (you could see individual pixels). New display: more pixels, so images and text are cleaner and crisper.
In addition to having 4X the number of pixels, the Retina display has better color.

Trust me; once you use a retina iPad and look at an iPad 2, you wonder if it's broken the quality is do low in comparison
Once you use the retina, there's no going back.
