    1) how do you "learn" spells that you buy from the store once you have a red brick etc? I have bought a few and don't know how to use them.

    2) is it fair to say that more than half of the hats, cards etc are only available in free play?

    Many many thanks in advance

    1) they are mostly novelty spells, and are used instead of reducto when you shoot at people. You can change them by tapping at the top left of the screen.

    2) entirely fair. Free play is where it's at! But you need to play through story mode far enough to unlock all the various 'types' of characters that you will need to get through the puzzles in free play. From memory, this game needs a strong, goblin, teacher, dark, female, parsel tongue and ghost... Anyone got any others?

    That's where I'm stuck. I don't know what's it's asking me to do...

    Thanks!
    OKAY!!
    That's not the door.
THIS is the door into Hogsmeade!

The door in your picture is telling you that you need to find the jewels pictured to put in each holder before it will open. But you can't do that till much laters in free play once you have unlocked dark magic user.

What you need to do is go back to where you came in, and walk slowly along the top wall of the corridor. There are hidden doors that morph slowly into Lego panels if you stand near them. Once they are white, tap it, and it will slide down and let you into the room behind.
Make sure you open up all of them, because there are 3 weights at you need to drop in order to open the gate.
The gate is through this door:

Let me know if you are having problems finding the three weights, and I will try to get back to you... Things are a bit chaotic here right now. :s

I am new to the ipad and downloaded Harry Potter years 1-4. I got to the shrieking shake and I killed Peter Pettigrew but it then kicked me out of the game. I have done it twice. Does anyone have a suggestion of what I am doing wrong??

Have you removed all apps running in the background? (double clicking the home button, then holing your finger on an app till it wiggles, and clicking the 'x')
    Then starting HP fresh?
If not try this and let us know.

I made sure there were no apps running in the background. However, when I held the app and until it wiggled, if I press the x on Harry Potter it comes up with a delete. If I press delete, won't it delete the app and I would have to buy it all over again?

If you delete it, then yes it will be removed from the iPad, and all progress lost.
However you won't need to purchase it again, just log in to the app store with the account you used to buy it with, search the app and voila there should be an 'install' rather than a 'buy'

You are at a different place in the battle.
First you need to shoot malfoy till he conjures the statue and calls Crabbe and Goyle up. Once you beat Crabbe and Goyle, then you can levitate the statue out of the way.
Then Malfoy retreats to the back out of reach and starts trying to smash you with the statue. This is where I figure you are up to... Pls let me know if I'm wrong.
What you need to do now is wait till the statue is on the ground and shoot it as many times as you can before Malfoy levitates it again... You will need to do this more than a couple of times. The statue gets destroyed and Malfoy jumps the gap and starts hurling fireballs.[/QUOTE]

THANKS! That is where I am exactly! I tried shooting the statue, but obviously not long enough. I will keep shooting.

As an aside, it is kinda fun to shoot Snape and Lockheart when you are frustrated.

/Maybe I miss understood what you said at the end. Did you want to me to choose another app to press x on or the Harry Potter one. Sorry to be so dense but I think I am computer challenged. However, I did make it to the third level of Harry Potter. Pretty good for me.

Sorry, I don't want you to delete any apps.
When you press the home button twice quickly, a little bar pops up. Make one of these icons wiggle, completely empty this bar as it clears the memory up.

Then run Harry Potter with a blank memory and see if it helps

I always turn the iPad off properly, then back on again after I clear the home bar too.
Pressing the power button quickly just puts it into a sleep mode.
If you hold it till the red slider pops up, then it will turn off properly.
Wait a few seconds after the screen has gone black, an hold the power button again till the little apple picture is on the screen. It can sometimes take a while to load everything back up.

I've also found that it seems to run better after I've synched.
