I've found that if I use the $0.99 (USD) app called Touch Icon, it helps me make nice looking (and representative!) icons.
Mainly cause I'm too lazy to re-type, see my description of this app here (post #2): Bookmark icon
There are others that can do this ... this is the one that I use. YMMV.

Installed it and found it to be just what I was looking for.
