I can't imagine it is too hard...maybe the supply voltage is a problem, since there is no 5V output.

It is almost impossible to read the PCB traces, plus I think the PCB is double sided and you certainly can't read the "topside" traces from the pics. Also, the pics don't show the components clearly enough to be able to identify them. The most I could get out of them was the pinout on the USB adapter. While helpful, that isn't everything. Without anymore information, a DIY solution is still a ways off.

Thanks for looking. Yes, you're right, it is not enough information on the pages I found so far, but maybe someone already reverse-engineered the kit and would be so kind to share his experience here...

I've got one of those kits.. You get the USB camera reader and an SD card reader...

They're only 35 bucks, - Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit - Apple Store (Canada) - so unless you enjoy construction projects and digging up hard to find parts (like the bare iPad connector), getting an assembled version is probably the easiest option.
