After seeing these creations, I thought I'd better try one or my 11-year-old son will lose what little respect for me he has left!
I wanted a true working stand - sturdy enough to hold the iPad securely, with clearance for the connection port in portrait mode, and most importantly, the ability to fold flat for easy transport.
The gray/black model is the prototype. It worked really well, and it folded almost flat. After some tinkering I came up with the all-black version. The light gray bits are actually thin strips of black craft foam, sticky on one side, that serve as cushions for the iPad. It still has a tendency to scoot around on the desk when it's not holding the iPad, so I may add some rubber feet.
