Well, I now have the opening tools which I WAS going to use to have peek inside my Ipad1. I have never been the least bit sentimental about kit. Ever!

I just can't do it. Excuses range from "I can use my old one when the new one is charging" "It's immaculate, why risk it"? Etc Etc...

Maybe one day, but for now I'm going to leave it in one piece

Yep, it's the putting together bit that is quite important Have a look at the links Tim posted above.....Great images and you get to see inside without having to dismantle it!
