I don't know what your plugs look like but there isn't a huge amount of space below it, just looking at mine the bottom of the Wemo is about an inch lower than where the bottom of a UK plug would normally sit......but that might be because of the conversion so that it can take a UK plug?

I'm going to order one from Amazon...if there is not enough room I will return it. I can see that it might be a bit tricky, but I've been wanting to do this for a long time anyway and your post just pushed me over the edge.

Plug into power socket, go to Settings App and look for wifi network starting with WeMoxxx and connect, start the free WeMoApp. After this it's just a matter of giving it a name (and avatar if you want) then inputting your wifi network details. You can then turn the particular socket on and off from wherever you are in the world. You can also set up rules to have it switch on/off automatically.

    It's as simple as that!

Just as an aside, I was worried that as they don't have passwords anyone could connect and turn appliances on and off however, once they have connected to your local network they disappear from the available wifi networks so they appear to be completely secure.

Finally, once you set up the first one you can ask it to remember settings for future WeMo's so for the second one I only had to connect to the WeMo in the Settings App then give it a name, it then connected to my wifi network automatically.

This looks great for many people who may have mobility problems and need assistance like this! This is a great find, Gabe!

BTW...I am the same like your ex...I am usually second doubting myself if I turned off the bathroom Light or curling iron! Would have loved one of those back than!

It's great to be able to turn the lights on before I get home.....I tried today and it worked like a charm!

That is so nice!! We have the programmable plug in versions and those work nice, especially when you are coming home late. Makes the house more welcoming!

I just put 2 of these in yesterday and the setup was cake. Only do one at a time. Once set up, the firmware updated within a few minutes. I have different schedules set up for the one light and it has worked great. I am planning on adding a couple more and getting one for my parents and their xmas tree lights. It is nice to be able to turn stuff on and off whenever.

I am looking to get one of the motion activated ones as well, and set it up in my entry way. You can set these up with the ITTT (If This Then That) service and get notifications of when the switches go on and off. Thinking the motion activated version would be a cheap alarm that is self monitored.

    But, so far, so good.

Also, and while it doesnt release until March, these are the coolest things ever! I want one for every light in my house!

I know this is an old thread But Could these devices be used in a corporate environment? Our wifi network brings up a webpage and requires you to log on. Would this be possible? I would love to use it to turn on our Tree lights for an event.
