I've been waiting two days now for my apps to download is this normal

No , apps should download almost immediately , it's best to download via wifi rather than 3G, check network settings.
If these are ok , try deleting app and reloading.
I used to get problems like this with my 3GS iPhone , powering down and restarting phone used to cure it,
If you get repeated problems, try visiting an apple shop, they are amazing with there product support.
