Yes you can iMessage anyone with an iPhone, but they will need to have iMessage activated to do this. With the iPhone you can have either their email address or phone number. If you have their name in your contacts folder, just press the tab which is a pen on a square and add their name, if they have iMessage the name will be in a blue bubble, if not it will be a pink bubble with a red exclamation mark
