    Safari

I updated to IOS 5 and all appears to be working well, with one problem. Every once in a while, for no apparent reason that I can find, Safari will close. I restart it and can continue to use it. Any ideas?

When Safari quits like this, it's usually due to a lack of system memory (RAM). Switch the iPad off completely by pressing and holding the Power button until the slider control appears. Now accept the offer to switch off. Wait until the rotating white bezel has disappeared and the screen is completely blank. Now press the Home button until the white Apple logo appears. The iPad will power up. Doing this lets the iPad's operating system reclaim 'lost' system memory and should fix the problem. Apple recommend you switch the iPad off occasionally to enable the operating system to do this and other 'housekeeping' tasks.

I have read many threads here that talk about it. It's not really anything that can be controlled. Most members fully shut down Safari before starting it again or do a restart of the iPad or a reset (or all three ... or any combo of two).

It's just crashing and there's no real harm in it, just lots of annoyance. I've seen enough comments to think this might be something with iOS 5, which makes me hope that Apple is aware and working on it.

In other words, don't know any solutions, I can just offer sympathy and commiseration. Sorry.

This is happening to me a lot.

It is a real pain as it often happens while responding to a forum or something like that.
When it crashes you lose everything you have entered.

I wander if other browsers have the same problem.

Restarting the iPad is not solution I found or just a short term one.

It is just an annoying bug which hopefully will get fixed.

I tried what you said, however after I shutdown, I clicked and held the home button, but the iPad did not restart. I had to star it the normal way.
