just looking at the two apps the free one appears to have access to more titles whereas the paid one has limited titles (around 100 I think) but much more depth on the subjects plus it has features related to current exhibitions......currently science fiction.

This new app is a winner.

Hubby now surfing the book titles and madly saving to bookshelf.
    In his own words.
    I could kiss the ground!
He is one happy book reader.
    Loves the old original covers
    Thanks Richard

The exhibitions at BL are excellent.
I also like the turning pages programme which BL pioneered. I think the programme can be accessed on line.

Follow this link to the British Library's press release which covers this new app. http://pressandpolicy.bl.uk/Press-Re...-iPad-4f6.aspx.

Under the BL news items I noticed that a lost Conan Doyle book is to be published later this year. I for one am eagerly awaiting this. This link takes you to the story http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011...th?INTCMP=SRCH

The following message is being posted on the Roots genealogy forums:-

Launching in Autumn 2011, the British Newspaper Archive will make millions
of pages of historical newspapers available online for the first time ?
Read more about this at www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk.
If you wish, you can register to be kept informed of when the newspapers go
    online.

Some digitised papers have been available on line for a long while. In case you don't know, The newspaper reading rooms and archive at Colindale will be closed down. Another cost cutting exercise which is a tragedy. The Newspaper Library is worth visiting.

Just curious is this app only available through the British ITunes store if so I can create an App sub section in the UK forum . I am considering doing this so that UK users can post specific apps in that location. comments please... Thanks

Col, I think it's available worldwide. Folks in Asia have been downloading the application, and I believe that the Staff at BL intend the 19thC books application to be used worldwide.
