There are a few free children's books in the iBook store.

yes try search in app store. "iadverti s.r.o.". tey have free: three pigs, litlle red ridding hood, ... you can try it. Those books are interactive and with voices.

This isn't free bit well worth it, try Grover monster and Cozmo. My 7 month old daughter loves Cozmo. It's one of the most interactive/best short story out there. Cozy is truly impressive. I thin Big Buck Bunny is free, a short story/movie for kids.

Not free but inexpensive - To find new and unique children's picture books in the iBookstore, search "Kiba Kiba Books" - There are 7 picture books illustrated by children. At the end of each story, there is a creative art challenge that kids are asked to complete. After they create their art, they can submit their images to Kiba Kiba Books online at kibakiba [dot] com.

Besides the wonderful story, there are a lot of cool animations and fun mini-games for only 99 cents. Love it when the balloon pops and the mouse ran and especially the mouse crying! I was laughing for a while at that one! Worth the price.
