My kids use my iPad all the time. I have adult books in the Kendle & iBooks apps that are not appropriate reading for children. Is there a way to lock (Password) these applications only?

For iBooks you can put the adult books in a collection, but there is no way to lock it.
I don't use kindle, but I thought that you have to log in with your amazon account before using it?

No. I've there is nothing at all that I can find.

The Kindle app only needs to be registered with amazon. There is no logging in. The Restrictions options in Settings don't apply to books.

Maybe the kids need their own iPad. If Verizon still has them they were going for as low as $299.

Why don't you archive the problem books in the Kindle app and they won't appear on the library list. It would take some work for them to find the archive. For the iBooks, you could sync with those titles not checked before you let the kids use it, then add them back when you want to read them.

I assumed with the millions of iPads in use there were lots of users that wanted a simple solution to limit access to certain apps for multiple reasons. It seems reasonable to me there would be a option to assign a password to any individual app that required the password before the app would open. While the suggestions I have received so far are options, I think the solution is to be able to password lock any individual app. How complicated can this really be. One simply selects the app and a password screen pops up. No or incorrect password, no access. Everywhere I go people ask to see / use my iPad. I am ok with that but I have lots of financial information on my iPad that I don't wish to share as well as books that should not be read by children.

CHILDREN HAS SUCH A TUFF TIME AS IT IS WITH STUFF THEY SHOULD NOT BE INTRODUCE TO. WHY KEEP SUCH THINGS AROUND YOUR HOUSE(ADULT bOOKS) ? WHY NOT REPLACE THAT ADULT BOOK WITH THE BIBLE. IT'S A LOT MORE EXCITING!

I think the reason you can't lock certain apps is because the iPad wasn't designed as a multiple user device.

It's more of a personal device.

i think if you jailbreak your ipad there are apps in cydia that lock app/s u want.

I realize ddimery assumes I am talking about porn, however that is not the case. There is lots of adult reading that is NOT porn but is not appropriate for children. I read lots of murder mysteries that are much to violent for kids. As well, I have some books about sex health that are in no way porn but would not want kids reading them. I don't have a single porn article in my library but would still like to lock kids out of the app as well as out of my contacts. While playing games, the kids do delete or change contacts while trying every single app on the iPad. It seems that locking apps would be a simple addition to the iPad.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is the best solution to date and somewhat solves the problem. I've been doing this every since you posted the suggestion. It still doesn't keep them out of my contacts where they change & delete them by mistake. The grandkids range from 1 to 10 years old. I try to give them unlimited access to the iPads so they can learn how to use them. I have lots of games installed. Unfortunately, sometimes I end up with contacts changed / missing as well as Quickoffice files & email deleted or changed.
