Thumbs up External iPad Batteries: total run time ranging from 34 to 99 hours

    HyperMac Batteries Updated For iPad

HyperMac, our favorite brand of precious-extra-juice-giving external batteries, has updated their line to offer 10W USB charging of the iPad. The four capacities will give your tablet a total run time ranging from 34 to 99 hours. Yes, that'll do.

If you were stuck on a steamboat with just your iPad and the beefy, 222Wh HyperMac, you'd be able to catch up on Lost—as in, watching every episode from the pilot up through the current one—without ever plugging into an outlet. What a reassuring thought.

The batteries will also come in 150Wh, 100Wh, and 60Wh capacities, for Alias, Twin Peaks, and Firefly, respectively. All of the batteries can power MacBooks, too, with the purchase of additional cables, and they're available for pre-order now for $169 (60Wh), $269 (100Wh), $369 (150Wh) and $469 (222Wh). The new and improved HyperMacs ship in 2 weeks; you'd better get encoding. [HyperMac]

I don't travel but sounds like a perfect solution for people who travel a lot.

Those are pretty pricey. I suspect as more competition surfaces prices will get more realistic.

The cheapest one lasts over 30 hours which is almost a week of six hour days and it weights only one half of the weight of another iPad. You could easily slept that around while out at school or working.

Or you could use it to recharge an iPhone 14 times during the week.

How about one of these if you were camping?

Where is your imagination? What could you see one of these batteries with an iPad used for? The heaviest at 4.5 pounds lasts almost ten full recharge cycles or about two weeks of watching videos all day long or doing real work with a productivity app.

The computer on guiding the Apollo missions didn't have to last that long as they flew to the moon and back in eleven days and it wasn't as powerful as the tiny iPad 64.

They could have used and iPad and been better off, doesn't that boggle the mind? And yes for all you AY&T haters out there, there was no AT&T 3G coverage on that trip.

My question is, why can't we do it now that we have the technology. That question, boggles my mind.
