I am sorry there are not more post warning new users about the apple smart cover. It's fun at first but horrible for long time use . I would agree with the Deft Detour 360 it looks good on YouTube. However I personally advise the Marware c.e.o or switch easy case. Both are light weight (biggie in the long run), have sleep wake and most important, well reviewed. I tilt to the Marware only because of the hand strap which can be used to hold in varying viewing one handed. In my experience I read a lot; Bible, news, choir songs, web browse so the ability to have a variety of holding positions really help when you get fatigued. But let me also say a case is a very personal thing and your use and enjoyment my require a different style Keep looking, try, buy and return if needed its fun! The wonderful thing about the iPad 2 is that you have so many choices. Don't fret, enjoy!

Oh yes, I agree and understand that. I wouldn't go flapping it around just holding onto the Smart Cover. But for instance, last night I was propping it up on the floor filming my cats and showing them videos of themselves (because technology is made for cat videos, as we all know) and the Smart Cover dislodged. I was holding the iPad, so it didn't fall over, but still! Propping up shouldn't be that hard.
Zipur, I agree with you. There should be more warnings about the Smart Cover. I'm doing my part by leaving reviews everywhere. Thanks for the opinions on the other cases! I have actually ordered the Switch Easy Canvas case for myself, but I'm worried to hear about the plastic cracking for many owners. Does Switch Easy make a rotating case? About the CEO, though I like the hand strap, I have to admit I want something colorful. I don't actually want to look like a CEO in all black. That's boring! At least the Deft Detour comes in white.

I personally love the "Scosche SnapShield." It's amazing! It's really thin and little weight is added. There is easy installation and
easy "de-stallation," is that a word? Yet, the case is very snug and it protects from scratches. It's $25 I believe, but I got for $15
off of eBay!

Ive got the 1st iPad and the genuine full case. Why didnt apple keep this design for the iPad 2 ? When I get my iPad 3 i Want a simple full casing like the first edition one and not just the smart cover.

Acknowledging I have not read all the posts on this thread, I would ask, does the Rocketfish cover/keyboard qualify in this category. I love this device, providing both protection and a convenient keyboard for email, word processing, etc. Cost $99 at Best Buy but also can find one on Amazon or Ebay for much less. Does anyone have a suggestion of one in this group that is better??

Great let us know how you like it. I think these MFGs update the materials as time goes by so the plastic issue may not affect you. Plus the case will hold up as long as you don't go nuts with it (kids). Here is Alan interesting point for new iPad owners. The most active/recurring treads are about cases and stylus options. Thats because Ipads work I point this out only because I started as a Xoom owner. From time to time I check their posts and the Xoom turned out to be a horrid device. So enjoy reward yourself.

I love the idea of a keyboard case as it would be close to fully replacing a laptop. However since I consume more than create my focus is on light weight protection not utility. Of course you can say a snap-on case would be lighter but you also loose a level of protection and utility. That being said the Zagg and Crux gets the most positive post in my mind. It's about the same price. Does your case add much weight?

Thanks, Alan.
Yep, the iPad is great, especially that autocorrect.
Got my Switcheasy Canvas today and I really like it, but I keep wishing it could rotate. I realized that being left-handed, I keep holding my iPad the opposite way of how it was designed. I think having a rotating case would be handy for that, and for reading things vertically. I might exchange it for a Deft Detour. But I definitely like the big flap when I'm resting it on my lap, instead of just a little floppy triangle like the Smart Cover. It's more comfortable. And the whole thing feels much safer and protected now. Maybe I'll give THIS to my mom and return the Incipio Smart feather. She might like it better, and then we can both just ditch our Smart Covers.
Oh wait - no, it's not being left-handed, it's that the Smart Cover got me used to having the home button on the left (in typing mode), but in the Canvas case it ends up on the right. But I keep getting other buttons and the camera mixed up. I suspect my left-handedness has something to do with it.

Try this trick. Go into general setting > accessibility > assistiveTouch = on
This will place ta soft button in your screen which can be moved to wherever you like. It's not perfect but it may be the answer to your left hand issue. By the way did you know all but two presidents have been left handed.
