    Dented iPad 4 Corner

    Hey everyone.

I dropped my iPad 4 while unloading my luggage from my car this weekend. It fell just as I got inside my place and hit the tile floor with the Smart Case on. The upper left corner of the aluminum has a nice dent now, but the glass and black gasket seem to be OK and it is working normally. The Smart Case itself has a small tear in it now from the impact. I have uploaded a few photos of the damage to the iPad and the case. Does anyone know if the damage to the iPad is in any way fixable? It seems to only be cosmetic, but as much as I spent on this thing and as hard as I try to baby it, accidents happen.

I don't think that is easily fixable, sad to say. Even if you could replace the back AL piece, taking that thing apart is a major peice of work and would likely cost a bit of change. I say if it still works, just live with it, but this time get a better case. I'm not fond of the Apple cases myself. I do think this damage may limit your case options, however. Those that are designed for the iPad to snap into - with pressure points on the 4 corners, probably won't work well.

    Good luck!

Luck was truly on your side. Tablet screens normally don't do well when they take a corner shot.

I have a much larger dent on the edge of iPad 1 middle of the side and has not affected operation at all so I think the iPad might be tougher that we think.

Kids have all plead ignorant to who could of dropped it, go figure.

I did the same thing last year to my iPad 2 and it was fine. Your iPad may be ok.

Like has been said...you got lucky the glass didn't crack.
I take it you didn't get the AppleCare+ warranty?

Every iPad comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary support.
AppleCare+ for iPad extends your coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your iPad and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a $49 service fee.1

    Dented iPad 4 Corner

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I didn't think it'd be an easy, inexpensive fix. I'm just going to deal with it. And no, I don't have the Apple Care+ warranty. I'll have to test the microphone to see if it works. It seems to be alright other than the unsightly dent. It still fits into the Smart Case just fine.

Has anyone ever seen an iPad bumper? I love bumpers on my iPhone. I think if there was such a thing for the iPad it would've saved my corner.

Search for "iPad bumper" on Google Images and you'll see a variety.
