Hello ICS15 - welcome to the forum!
The CCK (camera connection kit) accepts SD cards formatted from cameras for image transfer only; music cannot be transferred.
As for a USB connection, iTunes can be used for a cabled transfer (or an iTunes sync can be done via Wi-Fi); in addition, there are 'cloud' options - check out some of the iCloud choices, including Match HERE!

Connect the sd card to the computer and then, transfer music to iPad... Now, insert the card back to the iTunes....
