    Ibooks seems to be stuck

    Hi all,

While running os 5 I was having trouble with ibooks. Books that I had already purchased, downloaded and read started appearing in my library with an empty download bar and could not be opened. I tried downloading again from itunes but no success. I deleted and reinstalled i books but no success. I then updated to os 6 and no success. Then I repeated all of the above and still nothing. I have one book that I can read, delete and redownload successfully (which I purchased about a week ago), all the older stuff is frozen.

Any thoughts on what might be happening and how I can fix this?

    Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

I've heard of a few strange things happening with iBooks lately. I don't know whether this is connected with IOS6 at all, there is a new update available now for 6.0.1 which will be bug fixes so updating your pad may be the best thing to do here.

But having said that, do you do any regular maintenance on your iPad? By that I mean closing apps completely, a restart and a reset occasionally?

A reset is also recommended after any update just to get everything settled in nicely.

Closing apps completely - From the home screen do the four finger swipe up or double press the home button to reveal your multi task bar. These are all the apps that you have opened at one time. Long press the app until it jiggles and a red minus sign will appear above it. Press the minus sign, this will close the app, not delete it, now press the home button to return to your screen. It's also a good idea to close all these apps, as it helps the iPad run smoothly

Restart - Press and hold the power off button, the one at the top right. You will see a slide appear to power off, slide this and the screen will go dark and a Whirly will appear. When the Whirly disappears your iPad is now off. Press the power button again until the Apple logo appears, this will take a few seconds and your iPad will restart. You should restart your iPad occasionally also as it will keep it running well. Now see if it is operating.

Reset - Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you will see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start.

Let us know if these steps make any difference here.

    Hi there,

Yes, I do periodically shut all my apps down and do a reset as described above. My OS is completely up to date. Still experiencing the same problems as listed above.

Well, you can always do a complete backup, wipe, and then restore. I would use this only as a last option. I also advise care because some apps, like iBooks, don't seem to backup any PDFs that you import into it. So, those need to be backed up to your computer.
