I can confirm avplayer hd does play subtitles and can do 720p smoothly. 1080p and it'll lag enough to not be enjoyable. However you cannot select different audio languages so if it's english dub as primary, you're screwed. I think.
I use FileBrowser to access my video files on an SMB share drive. MP4 files play just fine on my ipad(new). To play the AVI files I tried using Movieplayer. A system message states that avi files larger than 450MB cannot be streamed to another app by ipad. To test this I tried with an AVI file less than 450MB and it played fine in Movieplayer. How do I get around this 450MB problem?
Try another app? I stream AVIs fine with OPlayerHD an GoodPlayer.Originally Posted by csatish

Yes, I have windows PCs as well! (too many to list)
The problem seems to be the ios. the alert appears when I ask FileBrowser to open any format other than MP4 files in another app. Is there a way to get IOS to stream files greater tha 450MB to other apps?
Are you using the Open In... function or the Stream to Another App option? The latter worked fine for me on a test MKV file. The difference is the Open In... copies the file from the location to FileBrowser, then passes it to the video app for playback. The Stream to Another App purely streams the video, so no copy ends up on your iPad.Originally Posted by csatish

Or.. you can convert your movies to mp4 via Handbrake(free software for osx and windows). I can covert a 720p, and 4.5 Gb movie..in about 8 mins and resized it to 1 GB. You should try it.
The other apps I use are peregrine and movieplayer and both do not seem to support streaming.
