Take a look at the Zagg Sparq 2.0 - For me, it is the solution, and it's all easily portable.

There are MANY charging devices that will charge your iPad in your car. You just have to choose one that will output the proper amount of juice. The iPad requires 2.1 amps @ 5V and 10 watts. Search for a car charger with this output and you will be able to get the job done.
