    Recording mic suggestions

    To all of those who record regularly with a group or just for fun, I'm looking for suggestions and opinions on purchasing a mic suitable for placing in the middle of my band to record on the iPad.
    USB, mini jack XLR connections, what is best to use? How easy is it to connect and what should I look for. Want to keep the cost under $200 if possible.
    Let me stress that this is a basement jam band.
