There are a few threads about this floating around and it seems a few members are having similar issues. Pack it up and take it back to the Apple store. They should issue you a new one. Best of luck.

Got the same issue, bought from ebuyer last Friday, does not bleed on to the screen but really annoying knowing it is there, will have to send back as it may affect re sale valueOriginally Posted by totemynote
If it is not showing on the screen when viewed from above, it is not a bleeding problem. You may not like it, but it is not a defect. Apple will replace it, but to me it is like looking under a skirt to see if a girl has shaved all of her legs.
So based on your comments, Ebuyer would be entitled to send it back to be stating there is no defect and charge me for the postage!Originally Posted by Seadog
My iPad had the exact same problem. I bought it from the online Apple Store. I could see that strip of white back lighting through the top edge when holding it at that same angle. Though when I held it normally I didn't notice any bleeding (which seemed odd considering their is such an apparent gap there). Still it just bugged me that it was there, that it wasn't perfect, and that it might upset whomever I tried to ebay this to next year.
I went to a local Apple retail store. I really wasn't expecting much, they couldn't possibly have anything in stock right now to replace it with. But I figured I'd try anyway. To my surprise, the guy took one look, agreed to replace it, and about 15 minutes later came out with a brand new sealed iPad 3rd gen. So far this one looks perfect.
One of the issues with dealing through Ebay is that the sellers do not have the same interest with customer well being as Apple. Apple will usually take it back just because you are not satisfied. Under normal rules of trade, they are not required to do so, since the problem is not one that affects the performance of the unit. How an Ebay trader will react is anyone's guess. You very well could find yourself paying more and having to keep the unit.
Sorry about that.....
This is the first device I've ever owned that doesn't have any sort of bleeding what-so-ever
