iPad 3 sound issue

Hi

My 1st Gen iPad has better sound than my 3rd Gen when playing the same song, video etc. Does anyone have the same issue? Apple told me to take it back to where I purchased it and test it against another iPad 3 to detect any fault. Even so I would expect the iPad 3 to be better quality than iPad 1.
