new digitizer now fault with locking ipad

looking for a little help with my ipad 3, it was recently repaired for a cracked digitizer, friend fixed for me and thought everything was working perfect, but ive noticed the following issues.

1. the power button turns ipad on/off but when i click it no longer locks the screen
2. the smart cover is now unresponsive

any ideas on the problem anyone, screen was easy to replace but im thinking tho maybee something was disturbed, are these 2 faults related to same thing..
