I did as instructed. I guess now I just wait to see what happens, no real way to check it. I am running 5.1.1 by the way.
Ok. Good luck.
Let us know what happens, or doesn't, as the case should be.
If you want to give Apple feedback on the issue here is the link.
Not only did it not work, it seems that someone is getting rather upset about it. I woke up this morning to some of the ugliest dialogue anyone ever cared to read through sleepy eyes. It started out with texter #1 saying "Mizael, are you awake?" Texter #2 responds with "who is this?" A couple of texts later things got heated. I took screenshots but I am not going to attach them, I could get thrown out of the forum. Lets just say there is a whole lot of threatening to beat each other up, an exorbitant usage of the F word and the B word, one side was calling the cops, the other wanting to meet "up at the car wash" to "throw down."
If I didn't have such a sick sense of humor I would be freaked out by the havoc my innocent little Ipad is wreaking. I am sure it is through no fault of her own ;o
I wish I had some free time I would love to take it to the Apple Store. I am sure they would find it most interesting.
I suppose it is time to set it back to factory and hope that fixes the problem.
I'm not confident that setting it back to factory will fix this. It sounds like a problem on Apple's servers. If it is, it will re-appear as soon as you activate your iMessage account.
Unless someone has another procedure to try, I don't think you are going to be able to fix this without contacting Apple.
I think it may be over. I asked everyone who was being sucked in, to try turning their devices off for a little while. It has been 24 hours and so far no strange texts.
I am going to go ahead and reset to factory just for good measure.
Thanks for the follow up.
Hope no one actually got hurt in the process.
