About LinkBacksI have instructios to backup to iPad 2 -- Connect iPad to PC via USB. Run iTunes on PC. Click on Devices, Backup to this computer, Sync.
But ... can I backup to an external hard drive instead of my PC? I would rather keep an Apple backup off of my Windows PC.

Not directly that I've seen. I backup via iTunes and also have a job that runs on the local PC that alternates a complete HD backup between a secondary internal hard drive and a network storage device.
