Pages app question

I have just bought the PAGES app which looks good, and have 2 questions.

1- will I be able to send files from my laptop to this app

2- is there a file/save as menu, if so, how do I find it, can't see it in set up manual

1. You can use the iTunes file sharing function to transfer files to and from Pages, or you can email them to yourself and "Open in..." Pages.

Documents are not saved as such. When you leave the document you are working on, it remains available on the document list. When you share a document, you make the decision as to what format, .DOC or .PDF, you want to send.

Sorry but don't follow...I opened iTunes on iPad, saw nothing about file sharing?

I am now totally confused, and am uninstalling Dropbox, as I hear I should be able to do all with ITunes.

If its no trouble, I could do with a step x step instruction please

To get to file sharing in iTunes, plug your iPad in, select it in the left pane of iTunes then go to the Apps tab. At the bottom of the screen, there will be a list of all of the apps which can share files. Pages should be among them. Select Pages, and a list of documents will appear. You can then transfer them to your PC.

The best way {in my opinion} to send iWorks files (Pages, Numbers, Keynote) back and forth between your iPad and and PC (non-Mac) is Box.com.

Box.com just added a desktop syncing app for both Windows and OS X. This is similar to the DropBox app that keeps a folder or folders synced between the cloud and your computer. Unlike DropBox, Box.com also supports WebDAV.

WebDAV is one of the export/import option in the iWorks apps, along with Email and iTunes. You can use it to upload/download files to the cloud (an online server).

This make Box.com the only round trip cloud solution for iWorks (other than iCloud which needs a Mac on OS X Mountain Lion).

In some ways it is more flexible than iCloud's iWorks syncing. It is more platform agnostic. In a pinch, all you need it s web browser to access your documents. In other ways it's not quite as nice. These are upload/download options. The documents don't sync like they do in iCloud. You have to manually manage your versions.

BTW, in the iTunes File Sharing method the document will not immediately appear in Pages after you copy to the iPad in iTunes. You must still use the + icon in the documents view the iPad, Choose iTunes, and import the file.

That's kind of inconvenient, but it has a plus side. You can import that document as many times as you want, giving you a kind of ad-hoc template solution. The original document will remain available until you go back to iTunes File sharing and remove it manually.

Hi Guys
I think this is a great site, and you are generous with your advice, but please treat me as a dummie as far as ipads go.

Kevin, I got as far as selecting files on my pc by using add, then navigating to these files, but how do I send them to the ipad

CRACKED IT!! and put them in a folder, same as I do on Homescreen, thanks a lot

If you still need more detailed instructions, just ask. There's a lot to learn, and no one can discover all of it on their own.
