Depends on the app. Some don't give sounds, those that do can be configured in Settings/Notifications.

Thanks...you have gone to a lot of trouble, I will try now.
Without studying it, it looks like the config for email arriving sounds? what I was looking for was a an alert for a "reminder" I had made eg must phone friend at 9 tonight.
just looked, cant follow your step x step as you cant go to notifications then general??
