About LinkBacksI, hope you guys can advise
Instead of backing up to my PC I decided to backup to the cloud. But when I signed into the cloud it shows only mail, contacts, tasks etc and none of my Apps am I doing something wrong?

iCloud doesn't back up your apps. Only mail, contacts, task etc. just like you said

It doesn't backup the apps themselves (they are already on apples servers so why make an unnecessary copy), it does however backup an data or saves associated with the apps so you can restore your phone from icloud back to its last backed up state.
