    Strange. I've never heard that before. But then again I've never had to use it myself.

    If that is the case you will only be able to restore the iPad by connecting to a computer with the latest version of iTunes installed, selecting the iPad, and choosing Restore from the Summary page. This will also update your iPad to the most current version of iOS, if you are not already there.

    I found another, though more complicated, way of retrieving the passcode without having to restore. Can't post external links so just Google "How to recover forgotten iPhone restrictions passcode". There's a YouTube video and an entry right after that with a written explanation. Says it works for iPads as well.

    Nice find. Thanks.

    If you look in the Forum Rules Item 13, you will see external links are allowed if they are relevant to the subject and not to your personal site, or an attempt to promote a site or another iPad forum. The strictly no external links rule is for signatures.

    In that spirit I believe this is the link you were suggesting.

    Hopefully no one read this while I kept adding the wrong link. It's the right one now, or maybe not, since I don't see the mentioned YouTube link.

    That's the one. Thanks for the clarification on the links.

    No problem. It's a good link. I'll have to give it a try someday, just to see if it works {hopefully never because I need it}

    Perhaps iPhone Backup Extractor or iBackupBot then. They do not say they will recover the password, but do say they have a PList viewer, which is what the instructions have you do with the other app.

    I don't know if the trial versions will do that, so if you had no other use for it it might be a wee bit expensive a gamble.

    I didn't realize that the password was stored in a PList, or that these apps could view them (just checked on a hunch); which is why I did not mention it before. Besides, the other solution is donation ware.
