    I use it to Skype my bruv in South Africa

    Also you can send photos and small files while skyping. At least you could the last time I used it

    I'm not sure about all this. I think some countries, such as UAE, block FaceTime and Skype or at least charge for using them. Is this right?

    There is no charge for using FaceTime anywhere, but you are right about the UAE. iPads supplied there do not have FaceTime.

    No. You need an iDevice running at least iOS 5 at each end.

    Skype is your friend in this case.

    If the other person does not have an iDevice,and you wish to make a video call to them,you will have to use a service such as Skype to make the call.
