As long as the static charge of the capacitive surface can be conveyed it'll work. Try using the iPad with a sheet of paper in-between you finger and the screen.

It's actually a really funny product IMO, no I have not tried it myself. I would however avoid using my iPad as a cutting board or a oalce to store ingrents temporarily. I hear sausage will register as input if it makes contact.
