    MobileMe vs...

It seems clear that MobileMe will become free in some capacity, and they are now offering 60 day free trials.

My question is what people feel about this App/etc compared to Dropbox, Evernote, etc for their iPad2 or if that's not a fair comparison.

    Cheers!

Mobile Me is supposed to be free to all Apple product owners soon. Hope they refund $ to those on a paid subscription now.

I'm guessing it will be tiered service with a free entry level. Those of us who payed will probably be grandfathered into some level of payed for service.

    But that is only guess.

There really isn't enough info to make any meaningful comparisons with other providers.

I use mobile me for syncing contacts, email, bookmarks, calendar, notes locate my ipad and my iphone... Mobile me is not only about uploading files to the cloud like dropbox... That's more of a idisk problem... Apple needs to revamp the idisk infrastructure so we can use it like dropbox. People can use google and almost get all the features i just mentioned for free... It just doesn't work as smooth on my mac like mobile me... Plus i just hate all the spam emails that google gets... I can't stand it!

I don't get any sig spam from gmail either, what I do get is filtered...

Sounds like 1password is pretty useful, I constantly have issues as well with encoding decoding across devices.

Still don't see the difference between iDisk and Dropbox...

Well when you go in the spam folder you can see hundreds of spam emails... I got a brand new google email and 3 days later i already had 60 emails of spam in the spam folder of course... I mean how come a 3 day old email can have 60 emails of spam... Its like google just gives your email info to the whole web... On the other side i've been using mobile me for almost four years and i maybe got 20 spam email the whole time...

And the difference between idisk and dropbox is the ease of use and it will work with alot of other app... 1password doesn't work with idisk for example...

Have you signed up at any websites with your gmail account?

From my own experience is Gmail almost spam free. The only emails I receive are either sign-up notifications, newsletter (if I forget to opt-out) or from acquaintances. But I have not received a single spam email in the 2 years of use. Whereas my hotmail account gets flooded.

As someone else stated that is not really a fair comparison as it is only considering iDisk Vs Dropbox etc.

MobileMe is much more than that. With two macs and two iOS devices I absolutely love the syncing the MM gives me. It is even better when you have more than one Mac: can sync your settings, keychain data (passwords and whatnot), dock items, bookmarks, mail accounts, and more.

When I bought my MacBook Air last week I was not going to be home for a few hours. I tethered the Air to my iPhone 4's 3G connection and had it all setup and synced in like 20 minutes.

    But iDisk? Rarely use it.

I suspect, as others have noted, there will be a free level of MM and then perhaps a paid version with more features. Already Find my iPhone/iPad is free to all and that was once only possible with a paid MM account. So in a sense a part of it is already free.

Ironically I am probably going to start using iDisk more often now. I am going to use it to store stuff I don't need all of the time on my Air.

My hunch is that iDisk will be part of the paid part of MM, but will be increased from 10GB to 50 or more GB.

While dropbox is free for 2GB and maybe a few more hundred MB if you refer, it is pretty steep IMO to get even the first tier to get more storage ($100 for 50 GB).

It also depends on how you intend to use it. Seems to me dropbox is really good at keeping a set of files/folders synced to the cloud from one or more computers. That is almost like a backup solution... very useful if that is what you want.

But I mainly just want storage... So thinking iDisk might be better... assuming the storage size goes up for paid users.

Finally, MobileMe can me had for around $50 on ebay. I have never paid $100 to Apple directly.
