What do you mean? The iPad 2 is selling for the same price as the iPad 1 did last year and if you happen to live overseas it may even cost less. In the UK prices are 20-30£ lower then they were for the iPad 1. And if you really wanted an iPad 1, you can order it online or over eBay & craigslist.Originally Posted by supersteve1
They are not taking them off the shelves , they are just not putting Ipad 1s back on because they are selling out .
Ipad 2 is the same price as Ipad 1 was before clearance priced, just does more

If you hurry, Verizon is cleaning out inventory and 16 GB Wi-Fi models are selling for $299. Wait til next week they will be gone, if not already.
As for price, this is priced so low the competition has their back up against the wall, even trying to copy, let alone improve.
Apple doesn't hate you. Nor are they treating you badly. Apple has replaced last year's build with a higher performance new model that is EZr to hold ... priced the same as last years model. The lines are long all over the world. The demand is so unbelievable high.
Used ones might be available, depends on how good you are at bargaining.

What i meant was before the ipad2 came out, the ipad1 was selling for £299, in some stores in England, I just managed to get the money together, when i was told they had been taken off the shelves to make way for the ipad2now somehow i am after try and get another £100 to buy the ipad2, and thats without the smart cover.
Several stores in Aberdeen had iPad1s for sale at that price - Car Phone Warehouse and Argos....

If you can't find on in the stores around you, check Apple's online store. They should have some at the clearance price and even some refurbished ones cheaper than that(atleast they do in the U.S. store).
White 32GB Wifi iPad2
Black 32GB iPhone 4
2.0 GHz C2D MacBook
You're right, Argos was selling 32GB iPad 1's for £300 if I remember correctly last week, the reason I know is I bought one full price the week before, (before finding out about the imminent release of the new one.) now they aren't listing the old ones at all, just the iPad 2 at £30 cheaper than the ipad 1.
I guess you didn't get in quick enough, you should be able to pick an old one up at a low price on the net though, there should still be old stock hanging around.
Apple applied price protection to retailers it is standard procedure not unusual to take stock back regardless if it is a ipad or a toaster. I suspect that's what happened usually retailers will not keep old products very long as it is not in there best interest
Explanation Not necessary accurate dollars ok
Old product ipad $499
New product ipad2 $499
Old product price protected $ 399 but only for so many days. Until new product is available
New product ie ipad 2 ships
Old product removed from shelves returned to apple for credit
This above will not apply to all countries but is an example.
Most retailers clear stock when new products released as it costs them money if not.
So I suspect the above was applied hence you cannot buy the ipad one any more from that retailer. Why do I know this because I work for the good guys in Australia and that is exactly what happened here
