Am I missing something with the Money on my ITunes card?

It started out I bought a $15 iTunes card and bought the mincraft app for either 2.99 or 4.99 I don't remember and a ringtone for 0.69c and a dean Martin song for 1.29. I then got a clock app for 1.99 and a video player for 2.99 and I should have mor than 1.05 left shouldn't I? Even if I was a dolor off one of the app prices I should still have more than a 1.05.

Your state sales tax is 4.5 cents on the dollar, so every $10 you spend will attract 45c sales tax which will be added to your App Store bill.

It makes me wonder if they also paid sales tax when the iTunes card was purchased at the store.

Interesting thought. That would be worth checking out.

Looks like you've turned something up here. I just had a quick dig and found this:

...unless, of course, you like getting taxed for the same dollar twice.

Got paid today and went to Future Shop to pick up a $50 and $20 card for the Store...
When I went to the cash, today - after the dreaded HST went into effect yesterday - , I had to pay taxes on the cards. The $50 one alone came to $56.50 at the register.
"I better not be taxed for my purchase through the PSN, then", I thought to myself.

    I was.

Bought the Playstation Plus membership and got hit for another $6.50 at the checkout.

Paid $6.50 in taxes twice... for the same $50.

Not gonna make that mistake again.
I loved having these cards up here so I wouldn't have to put my credit card on file but damned if I'll ever get taxed twice for the same purchase again.

Canadians.... DO NOT BUY THESE CARDS ANYMORE.

Unless, of course... well, see my first sentence above.
I copied and pasted the info since it was on another forum and the link would not be appropriate here. This could be something that members might like to keep an eye on.

For me though i should still have more than 1.05 I mean if my math is right and even if they took a bit of tax on my buys I should still have more than 1.05. And not sure but my sales Tax are less than 4.5 where I live. At least I think so anyway.

In Ohio a gift card should be sales tax exempt with the tax charged as it is used.

(D)(1) Coupons, coupon books, and gift certificates which are sold, either by the vendor which anticipates redeeming them or by any corporation, association, or other person for use among a variety of vendors, are not to be treated as the sale of tangible personal property and no tax should be collected on such sales.

And since I got zapped for not providing a source for info look up Ohio Revised code section:
5703-9-15 Sales and use tax; coupons, coupon books, and gift certificates.

They've never taxed me for iTunes or App purchases and I live in Oklahoma myself.

In most jurisdictions gift cards including iTunes cards are tax exempt as it's straight cash for cash value when they're purchased.
There is one notable exception and that's Microsoft points. In Canada for instance 2800 Microsoft points retail for $39.99. However the points are not cash equivalent dollar for dollar and some retailers (EB GAMES as an example) tax the points. Shoppers Drug Mart and Future Shop (owned by Best Buy) do not tax the points.

    Strange.
