Mail App is not fetching all mail from server

I have set my iPad to show the first 50 Messages from my mail box. Less than 50 appear on the iPad, but when I check my e-mail server, there are more than 50 messages there. Can anyone suggest why the iPad is not picking up my e-mails.

If your account is set up as an Exchange account, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, select the account and set your Days to Sync to all, or something logger than it is. This setting takes priority over the general number of emails to sync settings.

To the best of my knowledge only Exchange accounts have this setting/option.
