    Closing apps

    Closing apps-image-1135484698.jpg

    Hi

I am trying to close apps as I have been told this will help prolong battery life. I bring up the bottom bar by double clicking, hold down the app to make it wiggle, the minus sign appears to close the app but it won't close when I select the minus sign. I have powered on and off a few times but this doesn't fix it and still can't close the apps. A few have suggested to reset all settings but am unsure what else will be effected if I do this. I have recently updated to 5.1.1.

Anyone know how to make the wiggle apps close please? I don't want to delete them, just close them.

    Thanks so much.

Yeah pressing the home key will stop them from wiggling but I want to remove them from view. Basically, the minus key isn't working to close/remove the app from view. Thanks.

Hmmmm....possible that the delete app restriction may prohibit this function? Check settings/restrictions
Background apps are hiding for good reason. Seek them out, close them. The world will be a better place.

Gotcha...thought it sounded too obvious...lol. As stated..certainly worth checking restriction settings, I assume your've also tried the fix all iPad quarks fix by resetting ie. Holding the Home and On/Off buttons together until screen goes blank and release when the Apple logo appears. This is a none destructive reset, you won't lose anything.

Thanks for your help Midranger, restriction settings are fine and deleting apps is allowed i.e. no restrictions in place.

Lunar thank you too. I tried the reset as well and that didn't work either.

Any other little tricks you can think of? Appreciate all your help.

    Morning All :

I can't find anything close to the problem you describe. If they wobble but they won't delete my mind keeps going to permissions. Are restrictions active in any form on your iPad? Second question is your iPad jail broken? And finally just to be sure...you double tap the home button and the shelf appears with recently used icons on it, you long press any one until it wobbles then release. While in wobbly state simply tap the red minus sign and the app will disappear from the shelf only....not your desktop.

Let us know we will keep at this

I'm thinking this one is beyond our abilities to figure out. That the apps won't close after making them wiggle and then pressing the minus button makes me think you have an appointment with the Geniuses at an Apple store in your future. Especially if you have done both a restart and a reset!

This is a basic iPad function that has nothing to do with the deletion restriction in Settings (because you are not deleting the apps, you're just shutting them down). So, I'd recommend either visiting the Apple store or doing a full restore of that iPad (after a backup, of course). Cause something in your currently installed iOS is certainly messed up...

    Sorry.

You're not going to believe this but turning the iPad around so that it is in "landscape" allows the apps to be closed! Who would have thought hey?!?!

Thanks everyone for all your help.
