I am having the exact same issue. I have found no solution other than going back to yahoo classier mail.

Have you all tried to use the Mail App for Yahoo? I do on my ipod touch and works fine without the blue question marks.

I have since returned to ipads mail app and that fixes it, but I am sceptical it won't start deleting email right before my eyes like it did last year. I may have to check yahoo and see if the classic mail will fix the issue.
