On old PC in iTunes 'export library' to DVD or similar
On new PC in iTunes 'import library' from above mediaiPad 1 32GB WiFi & 3G on Orange, iPhone 4 16GB on Orange, Apple TV 2nd Gen and various old iPhones and iPod's kicking around!

Unfortunately old PC is broken beyond repair, but hard drive from it is now mounted in an external drive adaptor.

Hmmm, ok, maybe you could point the new PC iTunes to the library file located on the external drive in order to access that library and all the info - from there you could do the export/import if you wanted to put the library on your main hard drive rather than running from the external one.
Don't hold me to that, but in my head it sounds like it should work!iPad 1 32GB WiFi & 3G on Orange, iPhone 4 16GB on Orange, Apple TV 2nd Gen and various old iPhones and iPod's kicking around!
